On N Pattee St in downtown Missoula, the Hell Gate Elks Lodge carries one of the best names in the entire Benevolent and Protective Order. That name is earned. Members and visitors alike describe this as the gold standard among Montana lodges, run by people who take both the tradition and the community seriously.

The bar walls tell stories on their own. Decades of photographs, memorabilia, and local history line every corner, making a visit feel like a walk through Missoula's past as much as a night out. The lodge hosts special events throughout the year, including select screenings for the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, drawing film lovers and locals together under the same roof.

Membership here means more than a card in your wallet. The Elks are a community-driven organization built on charity, service to veterans, and genuine neighbor-to-neighbor connection. Whether you grew up knowing the lodge from the basement or are discovering it for the first time, Hell Gate runs it right.

What We Offer

The Hell Gate Lodge opens its doors for special events, private gatherings, and member functions throughout the year. The historic bar is a centerpiece, stocked and staffed for evenings that range from casual member nights to ticketed community events.

Local charitable giving is a cornerstone of lodge activity, with members organizing fundraisers and volunteer efforts that put money and hours directly back into the Missoula community.

Prospective members can inquire about joining through the national Elks website. Initiation connects you to a network of over 800,000 members across the country, with the close-knit culture of a lodge that regulars call the best in Montana.

The Elks gave America
Flag Day.

Long before it was a national observance, the Order set aside June 14th to honor the flag. Patriotism has always been one of our cardinal principles, and every lodge meeting still closes the same way it has for over a century.
